In memoriam Alexander Dale Oen

The world has tragically lost one of water sports' towering figures on 1 May - Alexander Dale Oen, Norwegian swimming world champion died age 26 in Arizona.

Apart from his superb swimming achievements, he will be forever remembered also as someone who has shown remarkable strength and humanity, setting an enduring example by winning with a record breaking time the 100m breaststroke final at Shanghai, just three days after the unspeakable tragedy, the worst massacre in Norway's history, had taken place. ”We can't let this [...] ruin the future for us”, he said in his message back then.

He showed how sport infused with deep humanity can be a unifying force of good and can give hope for the future even in the most tragic circumstances.

With huge regret we learnt the news and express deepest condolences to family and everybody who had the immense privilege of knowing him.

Lumea a pierdut în mod tragic unul din personajele cheie al sporturilor acvatice - norvegianul Alexander Dale Oen, campion mondial la înot, a murit pe data de 1 Mai la vârsta de 26 de ani în Arizona.

Pe lângă superbele sale performanțe de înot, va fi pe veci comemorat ca o persoană care a demonstrat putere și umanitate remarcabilă, câștigând finala de 100m bras la Shanghai cu timp record numai trei zile după tragedia masacrului din Norvegia. ”Asta nu poate fi ingăduit să ruineze viitorul pentru noi”, a declarat în mesajul lui de atunci.

A arătat cum sportul combinat cu adâncă omenie poate fi o forță unificatoare a binelui și poate da speranță pentru viitor chiar și în cele mai tragice circumstanțe.

Aflăm vestea cu enorm regret și exprimăm cele mai adânci condoleanțe familiei și tuturor celor care au avut imensul privilegiu de a-l cunoaște.

A világ elveszítette a vízisportok egyik kulcsfiguráját - a norvég Alexander Dale Oen úszó világbajnok 26 évesen elhunyt Arizonában május elsején.

Úszásban elért csodás megvalósításai mellett örökre egy olyan személyként is fogunk rá emlékezni, aki rendkívüli belső erővel és humanitással maradandó példát mutatott a világnak, rekord idővel megnyerve Shanghai-ban a 100 méteres mellúszást mindössze három nappal a norvégiai tragikus tömegmészárlás után. "Nem hagyhatjuk, hogy ez romba döntse számunkra a jövőt", mondta akkori üzenetében.

Megmutatta, hogy a sport, mély emberséggel áthatva, egyesítő ereje lehet a jónak és a legtragikusabb körülmények közepette is reményt tud adni a jövőhöz.

Kimondhatatlan sajnálattal értesültünk a hírről és legmélyebb részvétünket fejezzük ki a családnak és mindenkinek, akiknek megadatott az a kiváltság, hogy ismerhették.
